我們lab最近又發生不幸的事
比我大一屆的MD PhD學生-James的爸爸過世了
他爸爸住院了好一陣子
最後是死於肺炎
James大概也有兩三個禮拜幾乎沒有來實驗室
他平常是一個非常認真的學生
我覺得他有點工作狂的傾向= =
每天早上七點多就到實驗室
所以那麼久沒來可見病情的嚴重程度
昨天收到他的信
他說他爸爸是4/22過世的
我突然想起來James的committee meeting是4/21
那天還看到他穿著正式的衣服在準備slides
在這樣危急的時刻他竟然還是堅持開完meeting
我真的很佩服他

James年紀只比我大兩三歲但他爸爸已經八十幾歲了
因為他上面有六個姐姐!
他們家是從意大利來的
家庭觀念很重~
他們全家族都住在附近
而且每天晚上他媽媽都會煮飯
每次我們約他出去吃飯
他都不想去~他說他媽媽煮的飯比外面的好吃太多了:)
James的爺爺跟爸爸都是MD
他們家的小孩都幾乎都是MD
真的是醫生世家~
James非常的孝順~身為家裡唯一的男生
負擔照顧父母的責任
我跟Anthony常笑他交不到女朋友
因為他把所有的時間都花在實驗室跟陪父母

我看到James寫的信真的快哭出來了
他是一個很靦腆的男生
很nice～喜歡幫助別人～很幽默
所有認識他的人都愛他(真的!)
當然也是因為他還蠻帥的XD
在這段期間內~他從不向任何人抱怨
默默地承受這一切

昨天他回到lab了
跟他聊天他還一付很輕鬆的樣子
簡直無法想像他過去這幾個禮拜是多麼痛苦
他信裡提到不要再跟他提起這件事
所以大家也都假裝沒事一樣
但是我知道在我們所有人心裡
有一部份也在痛

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Thank you very much for all your warm thoughts over the last few weeks while my father was fighting a severe pneumonia in the hospital. Despite best efforts he passed away on the 22nd. Many of you have been very kind and supportive, but I ask that you please not discuss this matter with me when I return to Baylor. Our family has been flooded with generous gifts, which are not necessary, however if you feel strongly about sending something then please contribute a donation to the Rao Orengo Education Fund (5305 Pine St. Bellaire Tx 77401).

The Rao Orengo Eduction Fund was set up by my brother-in-law as a gift to my father and his father who where research colleagues at MD Anderson for over 20 years. It was supposed to be a surprise presented to them this summer. They both value education highly, and the fund will allocate grants to promising under-privileged students for summer enrichment programs aimed at encouraging them to obtain professional degrees. The fund is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
